The story plays around with citizens of a strange town and how their personality could be altered by scientific means. The story is rich in factual detail as is many other stories by Jules Verne. However the story is not as fantastic as money other by the same author provides neither universal concepts nor intriguing adventure.

Dr. Ox's Experiment was a means for Jules Verne to display his cleaverness in the art of story telling; and, to display his vast knowledge of the playing with masters of words.
