The Doctrine of the Last Things

In The Doctrine of the Last Things , theologian W. O. E. Oesterley provides a scholarly exploration of Christian eschatology—the study of death, judgment, heaven, hell, and the final destiny of humanity. Drawing on biblical texts, historical context, and theological reflection, Oesterley examines how these 'last things' have been understood across different eras of Christian thought. Written with clarity and reverence, the book seeks to illuminate the moral and spiritual significance of eschatological belief in the Christian life. While rooted in early 20th-century liberal theology, Oesterley’s work remains accessible and thought-provoking for modern readers seeking a deeper understanding of eternal truths. This concise yet comprehensive treatise invites believers to reflect on divine justice, personal responsibility, and the hope of ultimate redemption.
