Summary
READ BY THE AUTHOR! From the social media superstar behind @SimonSits, Isabel Klee comes an utterly winning memoir about a twentysomething woman’s search for true love in New York City and the dogs who helped her find it. This audiobook is read by Isabel herself!

A Jersey girl by birth, Isabel Klee had always wanted to live in New York City. At age 20, she got her chance, ditching her college upstate and moving into a grungy basement apartment in Manhattan. Dog-obsessed since childhood, her first post-grad job was becoming an assistant to a dog photographer, and something clicked into place: a career focused on helping dogs was the new dream.
Isabel quickly found a passion for rehabilitating rescue dogs and helping them get adopted. At the same time, she was caught up in a whirlwind of friendships, parties, fickle boyfriends and grand romances, which she recounts in honest, tender, and sometimes devastating chapters about the search for love and belonging.
Isabel’s first true love, though, was Simon, a fluffy puppy who’d been saved from the meat trade. As the highs and lows of her twenties hit Isabel in wave after wave, it was Simon who kept her grounded. Together, Isabel and Simon created a community of dog-lovers and a tight-knit group of friends pursuing their dreams.
In this honest and moving memoir, Isabel weaves together the stories of her foster dogs—and the challenges she helped them overcome—with tales of complicated relationships, hard decisions, and great loves in New York City, all leading to a happy ending not only for the rescue pups, but for Isabel herself.

An easy listen that had me walking next to her the entire time. I did not want it to end.

A true story teller. Isabel brings to life what it is to be a girl looking for love and life’s purpose. The deep passion, self doubt, and dedication to one’s self will always be a back and forth battle. However when you learn who you are and what you need to get through it all is what this story of her life brings forward. Makes me love her, dogs and NYC just a bit more.

Isabel's writing and reading are beautiful in a way I can hardly put into words. If this book we're twice as long I'd still want more! She made me smile and cry and want to hug her and want to be her friend. And she made me want to live in New York!

A worthwhile listen.I especially enjoyed hearing the author narrate her own book. It added authenticity and made the stories feel more personal and engaging. The book is thoughtful, easy to follow, and offers a nice reflection on the experiences and themes Isabel Klee explores. While I enjoyed it and felt it was worth the credit, I wasn't quite as emotionally moved as some other reviewers seem to have been. That may simply come down to personal taste.Overall, I'd recommend it as an enjoyable and well-narrated listen.

Love Isabelle and have followed on Instagram for a few years. Proud of all she’s accomplished in the rescue world and she’s such a good soul. But boom is mediocre. I think it would have been much better as a collection of short stories. I do look forward to the series adaptation to come. I just think she needs to grow a bit as a writer. And I felt like she held back quite a bit out of privacy for what I think is her family. I found it odd barely any mention of her brothers, and I suspect there may be an alcohol issue within her family? She danced ever so around this…but none of business really. But would have made for a more authentic experience if she shared a bit more about her “trauma” and commitment issues. It was supposed to be a book about relationships with boys (and dogs) after all!
