Unabridged Audiobook
it was a great disappointment and a waist of time, shallow and unrealistic for that time period. definitely an agenda for the liberal mindset against marriage and family. stupid book
I came at this completely blind as to the storyline- I knew nothing about it at all. I was cringing (at first) because of the roles of husband vs wife, of men vs women. I even thought that this must have been written so long ago and I was trying to excuse the character’s behavior to each other based on that. Well, I realized by about the middle of act 2 that this was an intentional look into gender roles by the author , and that it was hugely successful (at least in my opinion) way of doing it! I consider myself “had”. I enjoyed the read very much, and the cast did a good job.
I had always wanted to read this play ...a great classic of course and I loved the story. The narration and the players were in the spirit of an amateur dramatics company, enjoyable but a little amusing too. We may think this unrealistic for the time it was written in but the Norwegians have always been liberal and practical in their way of thinking. I found it an interesting insight into the 1800's in Norway. It made me think about the relationship between a man and his wife and how layered and subtle this is . ..who has the real control and power?
Enjoyable tale, well edited and produced.
Excellent book. Ibsen Family Watching
The narration is very moving. It feels quite real in front of your eyes.
