Unabridged Audiobook
I'm a huge Desmond Bagley fan. My favourites of his novels, The Spoilers, Juggernaut, High Citadel, The Freedom Trap and The Tightrope Men are all tightly written, exciting and develop at a perfect pace. This "undiscovered" book is by no means bad, it just isn't as good (IMO) as the ones listed here. To be honest though, this is the first of Bagley's books I've listened to on audio and I didn't enjoy the narration. Paul Tyreman does not do a convincing American accent and every time he voices one of the American characters, it takes me out of the story because the accent is so jarring. This mean I listened to this in relatively small chunks, which may explain why I didn't enjoy it overly much. The story is pretty good and Bagley was never less than decent. I've re-read all of the books listed in this review dozens of times and I still enjoy them each time I do. I won't be listening to any of the others on audio however.
