Not all doors are meant to be opened...

Enter a magical underworld of warring scholars, fickle gods, and one man's quest to change his destiny, in this spellbinding fantasy from international bestselling author Georgia Summers.

Caspian Verne is destined for greatness: to join the ranks of powerful scholars who can walk through worlds, and fulfill his grandmother’s ambitions. It’s also a destiny he’s determined to get out of, with the help of a god rumored to grant a powerful favor to those willing to pay the price. The only problem is that the god is missing.

When a ritual to track down the missing god goes awry, Caspian finds himself at the mercy of Mira, who has nothing to do with the scholars and yet possesses magical talents of her own. Desperate, he makes a bargain he has no intention of keeping: together, they will find the god and split the favor between them.

As Caspian and Mira hunt the missing god across worlds, they discover that not all doors are meant to be opened. For his grandmother has made a bargain of her own at terrible cost. And something dark is stalking the scholars . . .
