Unabridged Audiobook
Excellent book, will re-listen. Love the narration sounds like a Dexter/serial killer would
These books are a complete masterpiece and only get better as you go. I highly recommend that any fan of the show check them out, but go in with an open mind. The story is told from Dexter’s perspective, so of course he puffs out his chest and reminds you every few pages how much he supposedly has no feelings. I completely disagree with the idea that book Dexter is colder or does not care about Rita beyond the meals she makes him. The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, and it is what he does not say that matters. I listened to the first four books narrated by Nick Landrum, who was fantastic, but hearing Jeff Lindsay himself read the series is on a whole other level. If you are anything like me, someone who holds the original work of anything in high regard, you will find yourself laughing out loud and realizing that the overall story makes far more sense than what the Days of Our Lives soap opera writers at Showtime cobbled together. They kept throwaway characters around too long while killing off the ones that defined Dexter. If you enjoy peeling back layers, these books are an endless source. It almost feels as if Jeff wrote the later books in direct response to the show’s floundering final seasons. I did enjoy the series and thought Michael C. Hall was great, but honestly Dexter should be closer to Christian Bale’s intensity. These books are on a whole new level. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I have.
