seems a bit outdated. i guess because i've read more recent books with the same concepts.
A lot of very valuable information. It has both practical and personal value. A great way of learning more about how the human brain works and how it’s affected. Highly recommend!
Great book--addresses many root issues & successes! Easy listen (though clinical analysis tone vs self-help teaching can be off putting if expecting somethingd different) while doing, say, mindless house/yard chores--as no lists requiring a notepad close by. But, still (after a slow start) deep observations (along lines of children effected by their childhood extrapolated to how that looks into adulthood relationships--plus the last 15 minutes of audio frank talk between author and a guest) leaving one plenty to mull over and ruminate on how one's own childhood shaped where one has acted since & now. Plus good teachings & encouragement on how to rectify, manage, & mitigate such emotions more intelligently = successfully better interaction and relationships with oneself and others (personally, family, & work).
Amazing!!! Loving it!!!
The book's hype is deserving but over done. It reads often like a textbook with too much data. Other times it misses some much needed explanations of how the therapies are conducted. Long winded. In the end, your patience will pay off. It did help.
horribly boring...couldn't make it past the introduction...sorry :(
Unfortunately the author does his book a disservice by reading it. He has a dry, monotone voice which doesn't add any interest to a text that is already relatively dry. This book had a few interesting points such as emotional intelligence begins in infancy and discusses the facets of this intelligence: self-awareness, self-control, empathy and thinking before acting out. However because both the text and author's voice were dull, I found this book hard to get through and not very interesting.
Having read a number of other more current books on behavior and decision-making, this classic seems outdated and totally geared toward parents with children in their developmental years.
The book described emotional intelligence and how it can be identified primarily in children. I had hoped for guidance on how to identify and develop the intelligences (in adults.)
After listening to this book, I decided to get a copy for my library. I found it fascinating and eye opening. There were so many good nuggets of information that were substantiated with credible evidence, giving the book more substance then just information. I am convinced that this book will guide a parent, teacher, child, student into a new awareness and understanding of the nature of rational and emotional intelligence in human beings. This understanding has the potential to shape our lives and give new meaning to intelligence. A must read for parents and teachers.
This book has very important information to know as you're trying to raise healthy, happy children. The author gives important lessons to pass on to your children. However, it was harder for me to absorb all of the information I wanted to know while listening to the book instead of reading it and highlighting things myself.
Neat topic though the presentation was anything but.
Amazing. This book made me reevaluate aspects of our society, namely the way we raise our children.
Not a book I would recommend. I agree the audio is just a bore and theres a lack of intellectual stimulation. No points were touched at all on how to adhance emotional intelligence.
Basically, it was as reading from a text book.
Excellent material but the book is probably better read than heard. Mr Goleman's reading style was so boring. I kept wanting to fall asleep whenever I turned the audio on. He should re-tape the book and have someone else read it.
Don't waste your time listening. If you have time, buy the book instead and read it.
Overview of the basics of psychology. Nothing new.
Good Introduction into how feelings affect us, but fails to provide any real advice on how to increase your own E.I.
Not so much a "how to..." guide as it is an educational overview - what emotional intelligence is, what it does, what happens when people have it or don't have it, where it comes from, why it's important. It's worth a listen.
