Unabridged Audiobook
This book helped not just my marriage but helped me face some ugly things about myself and grow. I truly learned to act more dignified, take control of my own happiness, stop trying to control everything else, stop mothering my husband (an attraction killer) and fall in love with my husband again. This book changed my marriage and my life. The people who are critical of this advice are not ready to accept responsibility for their share of marital misery. I was very defensive at first too but the tools worked and I saw she was right. I was driving the culture of my marriage. I had so much more power than I thought; by staying in my own lane and letting go of all the petty things life changed. My mantra is “this relationship is the most important thing in my life”. When I remind myself of that, the small things that I used to make a mountain out of just seem like not a big deal. A few dishes in the sink longer than I would leave them is not worth disturbing the wonderful relationship I now have. My peace and harmony are more valuable to me than a bed made the way I want it. I see now how trying to control my husband was destroying him and me.
Great book!
Absolutely love this book and I was feeling hopeless before reading it… I loved it so much that I am now jumping into the podcast.
Loved it! Changed me and my family
Life changing!
Gave me faith and hope from week one. Was skeptical and desperate when I read this book. Her Podcast was huge help too
Some of what is said in this book had me raising my eyebrows many times. I don't think the abuse toward marriage counsellors is fair firstly, as therapy can be a very valuable tool for some people and there is a reason the profession exists. There are also a lot of crazy blanket statements in this book with no actual evidence to back them up. While there is good advice in some parts of this, the rest of it seems like a really peppy brainwashing seminar on how to convince unhappy wives that their failing marriages are their fault and their responsibility to fix by shouldering all of the "change" that needs to happen. Hell no. People change and grow over the years and there is nothing "embarrassing" about divorce when you have a partner who is unwilling to try or listen. The length of this book is also unnecessary. So much of it is self-promotion and slander toward marriage counsellors and she sounds like a clickbait ad. "BUT WAIT IT GETS BETTER" and she sounds really insincere. Personally I find her manner of speaking and voice very grating so perhaps this contributed to my dislike of the book.
