Unabridged Audiobook
I am a scientist who works in a TB lab and I found this book to be spot on. I would love to one day live in a world where TB is eradicated. That’s my sincere wish.
Growing up in the Caribbean, many elders would always equate certain coughs to having TB. Understanding the historical and social context and sentiments towards TB was eye-opening and made a great deal of sense to me. If this book doesn't leave you questioning your reception to someone with certain illnesses or your views of individuals with specific illnesses and the urge to fight for better global healthcare... then who are you?
This was an absolutely enlightening read! John Green perfectly blends the history, current realities and the very real impact of TB on those who were simply not born in the right place to be able to access the cure to save them. Henry's story as told by John is both heart wrenching and touching, providing a real person's perspective on the struggles of fighting TB and the inequities faced by many people in countries not "rich" enough to receive the same standard of care we are blessed with in the US and similar countries of great economic strength. This is a book and story I believe everyone should hear because with greater understanding of the issues surrounding TB, the more we can change that reality and hopefully the course of the future of TB.
interesting and affecting. I enjoyed that this was medical history, a personal story of struggle, and a call to action all in one.
Usually I’m not a big nonfiction reader and this version of John Green was new to me, but at least I found it to be very informative.
Who would have known? A great read for everyone
I love John green
We can't view health without the social determinants of health
Interesting history. Everyone would benefit from reading this book.
Super informative - had no idea TB is as prevalent as it is. Pretty fascinating listen.
great book! love that John green was the narrator. learned a lot of new things.
Call to action with historical references and the level of empathy only John Green can muster
The only thing better than a John Green book is John Green narrating his books!
Fascinating and informative! I sincerely appreciate the empathetic and stigma-free approach to John’s work.
Loved it !
Informative
Fascinating, multifaceted look at this estate disease and how we treat it.
A short book that is well worth the time. Deeply moving and never boring. In a world run by people like Donald Trump and Elon Musk who pit us against each other and tell us to take as much as we can, this book focuses on what is most important and how we can work together to create a better world. John Green is a true gift.
The way John Green wrote about Tuberculosis is outstanding. I've never realized how rooted Tuberculosis is with history, class, and race. A must read.
