Both the author and the narrator are perfect together. They are both dead pan Sargent Friday "just the facts ma'am" [played by Jack Webb, in the TV show Dragnet (1951-59)] Davis writes in such a way as to be a travelogue or a lecturer - nothing extra, no fancy flowery language - just the facts, like a medical narrative. If the story line was not so unusual I would have abandoned Davis after book one. But his imagination keeps me surprised and guessing.
