Unabridged Audiobook
John Solo is such a wonderful narrator! I could, and occasionally do, listen to him all day long :-) He brings the story to life, through the characters, the setting and atmosphere that is created. The story is really good. Calvin has been abandoned by his awful boyfriend and he, luckily, gets found by alpha bear shifter, Barclay, in the woods during a snow storm. Forced proximity and strong attraction has the two men getting closer a lot quicker than they may have done but they are very much the perfect match for each other. I liked just how protective Barclay was of Calvin but was not going to take his autonomy. I love a fated mates romance, and grumpy/sunshine is always fun to read. On top of that, Calvin's ex and father seem to think they are in charge of his life. Barclay has no problem in protecting his mate and what they are creating together. A great read/listen and an enjoyable start to the new series!
This review includes an additional audiobook review. I appreciated John Solo's voice acting, because I could hear the distinction of each of the characters. This story is sweet, spicy and romantic, and that was enhanced by the voice acting! I enjoyed this erotic mpreg book from one of my favorite authors, Roe Horvat! The main characters are Calvin, an omega with an emotionally abusive ex-boyfriend, and Barclay, an older alpha bear shifter, who is a bit of a grump. This story has a rescue with hurt/comfort plot line. There are lots of steamy scenes. Along with these tropes I enjoy reading in erotic stories: * Size difference. * Fated mates that work for their HEA. * Protective alpha. * Heat and pregnancy sex. * Full pregnancy is followed. Plus, so much more happens in this exciting all male world!
First off I adored Barclay and Calvin when I read this book when it came out. It was so sweet and I loved watching Calvin find his confidence. John Solo did a great job voicing these two, he was soft for Calvin and gruff yet tender for Barclay. Absolute job well done! This will definitely be a relisten for me
Fearless Bondby Roe Horvat narrated by John Solo ARC reviewrating: spice: feelings: narration:Calvin and Barkley are the sweetest couple. The huge, grumpy bear and his sensitive, shy partner form an unbreakable bond. I love how Calvin learns to fight his anxiety in the safety of Barkley's protectiveness. It is beautiful to watch him blossom. And OMG the steam is extremely hot !
I can’t get enough of shifter/mpreg stories! I need more bear shifters romance in my life. It feels like bears are completely ignored because everyone focuses on wolves, but let’s be honest, bears are the absolute most cuddly creatures ever. Calvin was emotionally abused by his father and boyfriend. They wanted people to believe that he was mentally unstable and needed to be medicated. Once Calvin decides to break up with his boyfriend, the jerk leaves him on the side of the road in the middle of a snow fall. Calvin rather face freezing to death than to continue with that relationship. While on a bear run, Barclay encounters a human who isn’t dressed for the weather. He immediately goes back home and gathers supplies to keep him warm. The grumpy bear rescues Calvin and takes him home. Calvin is more afraid of the man than he is of the bear. After all, he’s never really felt safe with the alphas around him. Once Barclay learns the reason why Calvin ran away, he makes it his mission to protect him not knowing Calvin is his fated mate. He tries to stay away from him because of their age gap, but their bond is too strong. For the first time in his life, Calvin feels safe and his anxiety is under control. Being close Barclay calms him in ways no medicine ever did. When his ex tries to take him back, Barclay makes sure to show them that nobody can take Calvin away from him. They would have to go through him first. Nothing makes me happier than a protective alpha. Barclay had no chance against Calvin’s sweetness. The boy was just too precious. Calvin finds a safe place in Barclay and Barclay finds a mate he wasn’t even looking for. Calvin finally knows what it’s like to really be loved and cared by someone and Barclay learns that it’s ok to love someone. I really loved this story. I haven’t read a book by Roe that I haven’t loved. His stories are always so compelling and hot.
No author writes omegaverse as well - and consistently well at that - as Roe Horvat. I have yet to find one of their books that wasn't a total, unbridled delight (and I've read a lot of their extensive back catalogue). Fearless Bond is set in a new world to previous series - one where humans know about shifters - and with this strong start to the Bears of Beauville I'm excited to see how that plays out. It's a high heat story with Mpreg in the forefront, but still manages to be cosy and heart warming, with many delicious tropes - found family, grumpy/sunshine, fated mates, age gap and size difference to name a few - and some emotional jeopardy in the form of omega Calvin's a**hole ex, but you know big bear Barclay is there to defend his mate (with a few other teddy bears too - the found family is strong in this one!). The audiobook narration by John Solo is spot on, his deep gruff voice perfect for Barclay but also softening breathily for Calvin. Given the spice levels in the book it's one you need to practice your poker face for if you plan on listening in public!
This book was great, and I’m excited about the series. I already want to know more about all of Barclay’s friends. Calvin is a sweetheart, and stronger than most people give him credit for. I love how Barclay is DYING to just muscle through all of Calvin’s problems but steps back to let his little mate fight his own battles. I read this in audio as well, and it was equally as good the second time around. The narrator does a good job of capturing the characters’ passion, excitement, and frustration.
John Solo was the perfect voice actor for this story. His growly voice captured the different bear shifters voices just like I heard them in my head when I read this book with my eyes when it was first released. He also did a great softer voice for Calvin. Often when I listen to a book that I’ve already read with my eyes I don’t pay as close attention while listening. That definitely wasn’t true when I listened to Fearless Bond. John Solo’s excellent performance held my attention from start to finish. There really isn’t anything else that I can add to what I already said in my original review shown below. 彡 5 STARS 彡 Smoking hot and sweet; another great story from Roe Horvat! I love reading books by Roe Horvat. He writes stories with all different heat levels and this is one of his super spicy ones. Human omega Calvin finds himself lost in a snowstorm and bear shifter Barclay rescues him. This leads to all sorts of fun and sexy time between the two of them. When Calvin was with his ex he always had anxiety problems, when he’s with Barclay they seem to disappear. Fearless Bond is a fairly quick read but it still packs a punch. It features mpreg, breeding, age-gap and size difference, and a bear shifter who appears fierce but is a marshmallow inside when he’s with his fated-mate. There were so many interesting secondary characters in Fearless Bond and I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.
