Unabridged Audiobook
I tried so hard to like this book. And I’ve never been disappointed by a Mann Booker Prize Winner, though I do regret the decision by them to open the prize up to all English speaking authors. (A big mistake I thought.) I had never read The Finkler Question. Now that I can no longer read, I decided to listen to the audiobook. I started the novel three times. First, I suppose being an American, the British accent was found to be too much for me. Unusual for me though because I’ve listened to many other Commonwealth accents & was never bothered by them before. But his accent proved to detract too much from my listening to the actual novel. I’m sorry to say that I was unable to finish the book. The story itself was confusing, meandering, too much going on, and just too hard for me to comprehend the plot even from well deep into the novel. . Obviously others felt differently because it was the prize winner for that year. I have to give it a thumbs down. Please do consider many of the other wonderful Mann Booker Prize Winners. They’ve never been anything but fabulous. You won’t be disappointed.
