Unabridged Audiobook
I love this book. It takes a bit to get into it because the action stops shortly after the beginning for the narrator to describe the church and the town and its inhabitants. I have listened to this book over and over. There are still parts I don't know how we're meant to interpret: (is Judd really the devil?). But I think the book is hilarious and fascinating--very cutting in its descriptions of the close-minded villagers and the cruelty of some of the nuns. I love the characters (even the unlikable ones) and how their lives change because of Fludd's influence. There are also elements that remind me of the film, The Bishop's Wife. I would recommend to anyone with a darker sense of humor who won't be put off by a couple magical moments. It's true that you don't get definitive answers to who/what Fludd is, but that's what makes the book stay with you when it's over. The narrator is wonderful with the language and making the characters come alive.
Who has an idea what this book is about. Not recommended
In the beginning, it was hard for me to understand the narration due to the heavy accent and the type of language being used. I almost gave up on it, but then it began to get better. I still can't quite grasp what the point of the story was. Towards the end it began to take form but then the story ended.
