I think the story would have been better but for that terrible narrator. His uppity way of speaking made me dislike Chade when he used to be one of my favorite characters not to mention the changing accents. The continual whispering was so annoying that it took away most of the enjoyment of the book. Too bad...

Fitz is terrible in this series and the narrator is horrible compared to the one in the first trilogy. The fool sounds ridiculous. Bee kind of holds it together.

This entire series by Robin Hobb is fantastic! This is actually my second time reading through all of them!

Once I started, I was hooked. Love the story and the characters specially little Bee.

The story is phenomenal overall… the is the WORST NARRATOR of all time. He has a great natural voice, however he is senseless in choosing voices for all but the primary 2 main characters. For almost all male secondary characters, he uses an extremely obnoxious ‘elderly, uptight British butler’ voice. It gives insufferable affectation to these characters, many of whom are young and should otherwise be likable. Any character that is part of nobility or even servants of nobility automatically receives this treatment and is voiced with a profoundly snobbish and elderly voice. This is regardless of age (almost none of these characters are old - many are supposed to be under 30). This is in direct opposition to the personalities of most of these characters. As the second time listening, I’m finding it infuriating. It’s very conceited of him to hijack the story this way and make it more about his own poor, lazy, and illogical performance than about the story itself.

What a great world Robin Hobb has developed. Full of adventure, mystery intrigue, and personalities. We can love and hate. It is hard to believe I have been reading this adventure for so many years thank you, Robin.

Even better then the first one. The narration is amazing.

Not one of Hobb’s best. Love Fitz and his world, so not bad enough to make me stop reading anything involving those. With the ending though I will be reading the last book.

Another page turner! Hobb is a master at character development and cliff hanging endings that leave us wanting ever more. What do you mean the next book is not to be published until 2017????!!!!! Fitz,the Fool, and Bea...sure to be classics of all time.

I'm so glad the Audiobooks.com helped introduce me to the books of Robin Hobb. I'm usually a fan of fantasy, but her depth of characters and rich imagination have introduced me to a whole new world. I'm always sorry when they are almost over, but am happy to give a great review and look for the next one!

This was one of her best books! Fitz and the Fool are my all time favorite characters. I read the book first and on a road trip listened to it with my husband and it was as amazing the second time ( within a month of reading it).
