Enter Mary Shelley’s world with an immersive cinematic soundscape.
Victor Frankenstein discovers the secret of animating lifeless matter and creates a being unlike anything the world has known. Horrified by his creation, he abandons it—setting in motion a chain of rejection, violence, grief and revenge that carries both creator and Creature from the streets and mountains of Europe to the frozen wastes of the Arctic.
Shelley’s Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is simultaneously a Gothic tale, a philosophical novel and one of the foundational works of speculative fiction. Beneath its atmosphere of laboratories, storms, mountains, glaciers and Arctic isolation lies a searching examination of ambition, scientific responsibility, prejudice, education, companionship and what happens when a creator refuses responsibility for what he has made.
This edition presents the complete and unabridged 1831 revised text, preserving Shelley’s revised narrative and language while giving its most atmospheric moments an expanded sonic dimension.
The Cinematic SFX Edition features original music, atmospheric ambience and carefully designed sound effects that complement the narration without replacing the text. From the cold winds and ice of Walton’s Arctic expedition to Victor’s solitary laboratory and the Creature’s journey through an indifferent world, the soundscape deepens the mood and sense of place.
