Unabridged Audiobook
If you enjoy being trapped in a room with a smug, self-absorbed narrator who loves the sound of his own voice - this is the book for you! Honestly, this was just an awful read. Painfully slow, mostly because the narrator cannot f***ing stop rambling. I found myself skipping every 30s (I’m an audiobook consumer) just to get through it. Instead of a gripping thriller, the story is constantly interrupted by his tangents and skipping all over the place to different time periods. It felt less like a clever choice and more like the author was just full of himself. I kept waiting for it to get better, but it was just overall just frustrating and tedious. Too many twists that it felt like it weakened the entire story. Twistflation? This is one of the first books that I’ve read that I think made me angry.
I really liked the book, though I am not hot about the narrator. He definitely through me off, and was very monotone, which wasn't great. But I did enjoy the story.
His previous books were so much better. This was disappointing
Stupidly written, not worth the time commitment to read. Needs a better narrator. I've read other books from this author that I enjoyed, this one I did not.
Meh, disappointed. I loved the silent patient so much so I wanted to read this one too, definitely not as good
Once I set the narration speed to 1.5x, I was able to thoroughly enjoy the story. There were some tedious first person explanitory sections that the faster speed made bearable. The ending was nicely surprising.
Really enjoyed it!
I was pleasantly surprised with the story line
Clever premise but seemed to become increasingly improbable as the story progressed. Narrator was excellent!
