Summary
I, Catherine Cabot Hall, aged 13 years, 6 months, 29 days … do begin this book.

So begins the journal of a girl coming of age in nineteenth-century New Hampshire. Catherine records both the hardships of pioneer life and its many triumphs. Even as she struggles with her mother’s death and father’s eventual remarriage, Catherine’s indomitable spirit
makes this saga an oftentimes uplifting and joyous one.

Quiet yet powerful, this Newbery Medal–winning book is sure to touch all who read it.

Nothing happened much. I distinctly remember the is which I will use as an example: one of the dairy headings was about her BREAKING A SPOON. Somehow the author , managed to get about 5 lines about the broken spoon, which was unnecessary. For as much as I enjoy lighthearted topic books, this was not a book that I would ever read unless told to.

Sweet story. My daughter and I listened together and we both thought it was a little bit hard to follow.
