Unabridged Audiobook
Don't let the prologue fool you. This book is very boring! So much so that I had to stop listening. I eventually forced myself to finish it, and was disappointed. I suppose at one time this was a great book but in my opinion it does not stand the test of time. I also found the narrator flat; he made it difficult to connect to these characters.
this book easily could’ve been 200 pages shorter. It really was the definition of a slog to get through. I think this book was done far more effectively the first time when it was Salem’s Lot. Straub seems to be very in love with his own mythology, which would have been effective if it would’ve had a satisfying ending..
The narrator does an amazing job of story telling, as always Straub comes thru with a good listen. I am very happy with the book and have listened to it a few times.
I thought it was very well done. I had seen the movie a number of years ago and liked it so was excited to listen to the book.
This was a pretty long, drawn out tale, but it was fairly worth it. It got a bit repetitive and dull in spots, but it kept me going for the most part. The characters are drawn well and you become attached to a few and hope they make it to the end. The atmosphere is pretty well detailed, but I think I could have done with a bit more description. The ending is fitting and well done. Not too far-fetched or depressing, but not terribly happy either. All in all, it was a good read!
