Unabridged Audiobook
Great book!
There were some boring sections. The narrator sounded like a preacher. The story was interesting as a study of family dynamics. One can wonder why there would be a racist theme in a Christian family of a minister but this is not uncommon, even in todays world. "There is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin-sick soul". (From the hymn.) I'm not sure that it deserved a Pulitzer. I guess no one found the balm. Nancy C.
I really wanted to try and listen to this book. Oprah thinks highly of this and other two in the series. But I couldn’t listen to the narrator. He had a deep resonant voice but it would dip low at intervals than suddenly the volume would go way up and I found it just got on my nerves. I would give it another try with another narrator.
This may win a second award, if they ever give one out for being the worst book to ever win a Pulitzer.
