Unabridged Audiobook
This book is brilliant as it is shocking , not an easy listen but utterly compelling, never listened to a book like it, highly recommend anyone to buy this book .
Much better than its previous 3 star rating and even tho I had guessed one of the twists in the tale, it didn't disappoint.
An amazing book, reads well and was very well read
A very dark story that conveys how the people who should love you the most, commit the most horrific child abuse. However, this story also depicts the strength and resilience of children and their ability to survive the most unimaginable upbringings.
Perhaps it's because I had the audiobook and also because the narrator, Holiday Graiinger used a bored, disengaged voice continuously, I found it very boring, didn't empathise at all with the characters and gave up when I was about a third through it.
Very dark, and upsetting in some places. Working as a criminal lawyer for 30 years, the descriptions of the conditions at the House of Horrors was so accurate. But also, the tenderness of some of the relationships is so beautiful, and so warm that the book is emotionally baffling. Really very good. The narrator is superb, not over-egging the northern accents, and pacing her speech beautifully.
It is a story of dealing with a horrible trauma in diffrent ways, and it is told in an amusing, realistic manner. I can't wait to see new books from this wonderful author.
Highly nuanced, complex book, excellently plotted, just a great, if disturbing read. Narrator is subtle and excellent.
One of the most boring books I have ever read. The narrator has such a monotone delivery, probably was what made it worse
I would’ve appreciated more time to address the gaps in the narrative. Story felt rushed.
Very slow story. The narrator's accents were a bit cringe with very little gap between scenes so sometimes you didn't know the story had moved on.
