Unabridged Audiobook
This is a captivating read with an excellent narrator. If you try to look up information about this sect in English, you'll get some stuff about the Knutby shooting, but this book is an autobiographical deep dive into what life is like for a young person being gradually consumed by a cult. Oh, that's another thing: this story has been translated from Swedish into British English, so "sect" here doesn't just mean a specific denomination--it means a cult. If they had titled the book "Girl in a Cult", it might attract more American readers. Anyway, I'm really enjoying this one. I can't wait to see how the author ends up leaving the sect/cult. I just had to leave a review when I saw it only had 3.5 stars. It's way more interesting than that, and it's a true story.
A very interesting read on cult life and how it affects young children. Narrator was excellent. Should never have been rated as 3 stars.
Not the most robust story if you're looking for insight into cult behaviors or specific doctrines. but compelling as a personal story and deserved empathy.
surprisingly good .. a very in depth study of what it means to grow up and live in a cult. How close the experience is to growing up in "normal " society with bullying and manipulation of basic human emotions and desires. recommended
Interesting read on how it feels like to be involved in the inner sanctum of a sect, but not a perpetrator or a victim of the worst abuses the sect carried out.
thank you Linea for telling us your story! The only thing I knew about this cult was the murder part, and I am really thankful to you for publishing a testimonial from the inside. For revealing the truth about how predatory Åsa Waldau truly was. It also unravel the questions of the leader's children. They too are victims but also benefit from this statue. Asa's daughter was a victim and an abuser towards you. Her tantrums caused you a great deal of pain. But I can imagine that she wouldn't have acted like this if she wasn't put in this position by her terrible mother.
Interesting book that kept me intrigued and wanting to know more. Narrator was ok.
This was an awful story!! Mad me angry! Hard to listen to!!
Far more about day-to-day friendships of a group of young people, living with the fear of god, under false pretenses, than about the actual sect. Only listened through to learn the outcome, which came much too late.
sad story,
I do like a biography and was excited to purchase this one, although I did find the constant repetition of names quite confusing and very distracting at times it was still very insightful about how a sect operates
Good story,good narrator .
great insight into the daily life of a sect and the impact such things can have in adulthood. I appreciate this story was translated!
