Summary
June Moody, a thirty-something English professor, just wants to get away from her recent breakup and reunite with girlfriends over summer break. Her old friend and longtime nemesis Sadie MacTavish, a mega-successful author, invites June and her college friends to a baby shower at her sprawling estate in the San Juan Islands. June is less than thrilled to spend time with Sadie and her husband—June's former crush—but agrees to go.

The party gets off to a shaky start when old grudges resurface, but when they wake the next morning, they find something worse: Sadie is missing, the house is in shambles, and bloodstains mar the staircase. None of them has any memory of the night before; they wonder if they were drugged. Everyone's a suspect. Since June had a secret rendezvous with Sadie's husband, she has plenty of reason to suspect herself. Apparently, so do the cops.

A Celtic knot of suspense and surprise, this brooding, atmospheric novel will keep you guessing as each twist reveals a new possibility. It will remind you of friendships hidden in the depths of your own past and will make you wonder how well you really know the people you've loved the longest.

Great story. Still trying to figure out what “olive colored skin” means. Almost every book I come across, at least one person has that skin tone. It’s a bit annoying.

I thought it was a fine book. Don't Hate it, don't love it but I'm not sure I would ever suggest it. I did enjoy it as a time killer while I cleaned though.

I enjoyed the story. Found it a slow start. I spent most of the book wondering why these women were ever friends. Too much unnecessary detail in the beginning and at different points. Unique plot and I did get more drawn into the story from the point of Sadie’s disappearance.

I liked it. The narrator did not disappoint and story had its twist and wow!

The narrator's Scottish accent was really terrible and difficult to listen to.

It was okay. Not a book I would recommend though.

The story was weak, the ending was disappointing and the narrator did not sound like the male voice correctly. the Irish accent was off.. it was just okay but I wouldn't say rush to listen to this book at all. it fell flat.

I thought her attempt at British sounded more Irish or something. But overall a good listen. While I had it figured out pretty early, the twists and turns had me questioning myself.

Entertaining story, narration was an A for effort on the accents. I enjoyed the level of detail that the author put into setting each scene.

A good classic murder mystery and an easy read, I enjoyed it and it kept me guessing. The narrator was good over all but her Scottish accent was absolutely horrendous!!
