Unabridged Audiobook
I LOVE the 3 Pines series and look forward to each new installment, however, I found this one a bit hard to follow and complicated with many unfamiliar names and titles and various back stories. Although I can appreciate why Louise Penny chose a new narrator with an accent more authentic to the location of the characters, I didn’t feel he did a very good job distinguishing the voices so that may have impacted my ability to follow the story line. I will absolutely launch into the next book in the series as soon as it’s released!
Way too many characters and therefore tough to follow. Now we wait for the next book because this episode is not yet finished. Don’t think I will read the next book! Had enough!
So I have always loved Louise Penny’s books, have read and listened to all of them many times. This one was a disappointing book to listen to… the narrator is terrible, really really terrible at doing different voices! He may think he’s doing different voices for each character in the book, but it really is just him sounding silly, so much so it makes you want to look for something else to listen to. It very distracting for the actual story! AND BY THE WAY INSPECTOR GAMACHE IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE A BRITCH/ FRENCH ACSENT… at least that’s what Louise Penny has always said in her earlier books! I guess she doesn’t care any more about character integrity!!!!!!!
I enjoyed this book along with the whole series!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book and thought the narrator was great, can't wait for the next one!
Penny needs to get back to writing about the characters we love in Three Pines. The international crime and conspiracies are a dime a dozen. This story is not what I read these books.
Really miss the books where the plot did not revolve around a potential national disaster.
This was not my favorite Armand Gamache book… a little too fantastical. I found it unrealistic that the chief of homicide of Quebec would be investigating such an important possible conspiracy on his own without anyone realizing it. I found his leap to thinking or realizing the drinking water was the terrorist target to be a bit far-fetched. Still a good yarn. I also have not settled in with the new narrator yet. I wish he would use different voices when there is a running dialogue between, say, Armand and Beauvoir. It’s hard for me to discern who is speaking sometimes.
Can’t wait for the next book, and I love the new narrator, although I have liked them all very much!
Another excellent story and the new narrator is terrific!
Intricate and fascinating references to current situations and possibilities. As always the psychological depth dovetails with the profound underlying messages. Very glad that the end portends another book!
I have been waiting for the next Louise Penny book. It does NOT disappoint!
