Unabridged Audiobook
It’s a good read and hard to swallow but I am glad she shared her story.
The commentator has such a huge accent hard to understand or take seriously. After about 20 minutes I said ‘no more’
Awesome book.
Storyline and natation became very repetitive
Horrible story but written very well. I really enjoyed this book.
A story that needs to be told! But hard to listen to as a parent.
Truly heartbreaking story but well narrated
Powerful. This story needs to be told out loud and as much as possible, as a show of support to the victims of child sexual exploitation.
Interesting to delve deeper into the psychology of the victim, but this became tediously repetitious and lost momentum and sympathy in the process
I have never read or listened to a story quite like this one. It was riveting. I can see where Christina was too frightened of the danger these men brought, not only to her, but to her parents as well, to report the grooming gang to the police until she was much older. (And then when she first did, the paperwork was lost, leading to more years of abuse!) She faults the authorities for not seeing the obvious signs early on, without ever telling them a thing about what was going on with her. The harrowing life of heartless physical, psychological and sexual abuse she (and so many other young girls) suffered for most of her teen years was described without being overly gratuitous - quite a fine line to walk. I wish her a long and happy life. The narrator of this audiobook, Laura Brydon, was outstanding. Being American, I found myself thinking in her accent! I am not sure if she naturally has that particular British accent, but it fits with the location of Christina's hometown of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England. Laura really brought the story to life, and I will seek out other books she has narrated in the future.
