Unabridged Audiobook
I don't think I've sat and listened so intently to a book before, I usually lose focus and need to skip back multiple times but, not for The Guest List. It's probably one of the best paced murder mysteries I've come across and even though I called a few of the twists well before they happened, it still surprised me at the end and was overall very satisfying that I hadn't quite worked it all out. Lucy Foley is a genius and an artist. The clues she gives feel obvious at the time like she gives a generous amount of information for the reader to work it out themselves. I think her success is in the fact that she brings the reader along for the ride rather than leaving them in the dark until the end. There wasn't some huge explanation to fill in the gaps like there are with some books (Thursday Murder Club lost my interest for this reason) but rather a piecing together of all the evidence that was picked up along the way. No stone was left unturned and no piece of evidence felt unnecessary. The narrators were incredible. They weren't given only the dialogue of their own character like some books do, but they took over the entire chapter that came from the perspective of their character instead. There's something powerful in this, as each had their own interpretation of how different people sounded. At first I found this a little jarring as some characters had entirely different accents between chapters, but there was something about it that gave it charm. I was never confused as to who was talking so it wasn't a problem even if some of the bad accents might not have been intentional. All in all, it was an amazing read. The characters felt so real and relatable, no one was completely innocent and all of them had flaws that felt grounded. The kinds of flaws that everyone has to some extent, but thinks no one else has.I'm almost scared now to look for her other work, as it seems by the other reviews that this is some of her best, and I don't see how she could top this at all. I highly recommend it!
Kept my attention to the end. Excellent narration.
Kept me guessing till the very end. The narration was good, I like the multiple voices.
Wonderful
Enjoyable suspenseful read
Great twist but the reading of it is too slow, speeded the whole thing up and much easier to listen to. Great story though
Excellent narration
Really good story , just a shame that the ending appeared to be rushed. Disappointing not getting a conclusion for many characters.
Loved it! Great characters and great plot!
A slightly altered version of the characters in The Hunting Party. A very simple plot with the solution evident at least halfway through the book.
Loved this story and the narrators!
Fabulous plot, love this author’s books! Suspense and intrigue ‼️
Loved this book. Had me intrigued from start to finish. Great story line. Easy escape from day to day life. The prologue really put me off because I thought it would be soft and romantic. It is not. Ready for the next book from this author.
Kept me guessing the whole time! Great narration. Each character was could be distinctly told apart by the voice.
Enjoyable
Really enjoyed this book. I liked how you hear the same story from different characters perspectives. Easy to listen to narrators.
exciting stuff, great narration
Really enjoyed this, same format as ‘The Hunting Party’ but much better. Suspenseful and kept you guessing- a good murder mystery.
A bit drug out, too much detail on the characters but interesting end twist. Leaves one guessing to the end
I’d enjoyed the Hunting Party so decided to give this book a try and preferred it. It was easy to listen to and the narrators were great. I did guess the ending before it happened but only just. I was gripped and guessing right up until then. I’d definitely recommend for a really entertaining story that is quite fast moving and grips you from the word go.
It's entertaining, I liked it and it was a quick read. The narrators make a good job, the last hours I couldn't stop listening. Fun book.
Superb narration. Clever ending
This was a good lose your brain sort of listen. Not deep, the story was totally unbelievable and so quite fun really. some of the narrator's were quite annoying.
