The intensity of the Waldo’s, story drew me in and kept me for the whole 04:34:24 straight. I could also listen to Jeannette’s voice, for all my books. She has a calm voice, that’s not over powering, or dreary, that puts you in a coma, and she makes you want to listen to the whole book. Jennette McCurdy's writing is so impressive, so vivid, that you feel for her characters, as if you personally know them. I highly recommend this book to everyone. It’s that good.

This was not well written. While I enjoy the narration I kept waiting for something to happen. I’m confused on so many things in this story.

Didn’t sit quite right - I didn’t really enjoy it that much - kept hoping for something to happen to give it a little twist but it was just lumpy.

Content Warning: Sexual assault involving a minor. Before I share my thoughts, I want to be clear that I do not view this as an adult/minor "relationship." A child cannot consent to a relationship with an adult, especially one in a position of authority. My review is discussing a story about grooming and sexual abuse, and I don't want my words to unintentionally normalize or romanticize that dynamic. This one just wasn't for me. The central relationship between an adult and a minor gave me the ick from the very beginning, and while I understand that discomfort was likely the point, it never became compelling enough to justify sitting in that feeling for an entire book. Jennette McCurdy doesn't shy away from the main character's thoughts, and they're incredibly vivid. Sometimes too vivid. There were several scenes that felt so graphic and unsettling that I found myself more disgusted than invested. That said, the way she writes about the desperate need to feel seen and how the main character ties her worth to getting her teacher's attention felt painfully honest. Having read I'm Glad My Mom Died, those emotions felt less like something she invented and more like something she truly understood. Overall, I can appreciate what this book was trying to do, but the subject matter and constant discomfort made it a miss for me.

The book was enjoyable, but the author’s monotone delivery made it difficult to immerse myself in the story. She sounds like she’s being force to read her own book. I think reading the book would be more enjoyable.

Some scenes seemed unrealistic. I wish it had a better ending or talked more about her realization. Overall I enjoyed the story line, I would recommend.

The writing and flow are very juvenile in my opinion which knocks down the story. The story itself was freaking wild and the ending was too abrupt. Overall, gross but intriguing.

The narrator rushes

Jeannette does such a great job at narrating her first fiction book. The story is a great portrayal of all the complexities of a teenage girl. It will have your emotions all over the place as you are uncomfortable yet commiserating with the characters. The complexity of the story is very well written. Just like her previous book.

loved the narration, also, is a very refreshing way of portraying a teenager, understanding she has complex thoughts and she is not stupid.
