Unabridged Audiobook
Another wonderful book in the Strike series! I love this series and Robert Glenister’s interpretation of the characters. For a long book, it goes by far too quickly and the wait for the next book begins.
This is one of my absolute favorite series! I snatch up these books every time one is published. Great job by the narrator once again, also. I look forward to the next book.
After 31 hours, I was still sad to have it come to an end. So captivating and Robert Glenister’s narration is flawless. Can’t wait for the next one!
Another good one! Great narrator, too!
Love JK Rowling. Love the Strike series. This book needed an editor's hand. Too many small characters, not one single main character worth noting. Filler in the series. It's too bad coming on the heels of the last two books, which were each quite a ride. Narration remains top shelf.
Engrossing story. Too many names for me to keep track as I focus on my driving at the same time. The narrator is incredible. How he manages to switch so effortlessly between different voices I don't know. From the male voice with a slight Cornish edge to the female with a touch of Yorkshire then to the Scot. Jeez. Listening to the narrator is worth the price of admission in itself.
She's my favorite author because of her vivid description, fascinating research and unusual twists. There are NEVER plot holes. I choose her books when I need to be thoroughly distracted from my own stresses. I always feel energized at the novel's end. This author is a rare literary master. The narrator's is engaging, voicing each character distinctly with authentic accents.
I really enjoyed the audio book and can’t wait to read the next one
As usual I had trouble putting the book down. I have listened to the entire series to this point, and as always can't wait for the next book. I did find the main plot of this book a little bit confusing because there were so many characters involved. A little difficult to keep track of, but as usual, it all came together in the end. I can't imagine listening to these books with a different narrator. He's just so good.
This book is one of my favorites because of the complication of the plot and the sub stories as well. I wish JK would not drag out the romance portion though. This series would still be great if certain characters got together. It has been done in the past with other series. See Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody series. The main characters were married for 17 of the 18 books and it was still fresh and fun and the dynamic of the couple was a fun read. Come on, JKR, you can write just as good a book with the romance moving into what your readers want.
I liked this book the most, and I've liked them all. Always complex, this kept me guessing the whole way. Enjoy!
Robert Galbraith's books are distinguished by excellent language, great character development, and complicated storylines. Regarding the latter, the complicated aspect sometimes gets too difficult to follow with lots of characters, plots, and subplots almost with the sole purpose of overloading the reader into falsely believing the mystery to be very intricate or difficult to solve. This particular novel really piles it on making it into a 31 hour monstrosity that I only followed hoping to get to where the addictive chemistry between Strike and Robin finally gets too a romantic conclusion. Without that angle in play, I do not see myself reading this series poorly for the detective mystery it presents. Unfortunately, the author seems to have recognized this hook and perhaps expectedly decided to keep the readers hanging for the next book to understand whether the romance will be reciprocated or not. Unfortunately, I am out of patience and the prospect of a pending Strike-Robin romance will likely not be enough to tempt me to take on the next book if it is any longer than half of this book.
I love Robert Glenister’s interpretation of the characters. It's a great book, with a little bit too many threads, but they come together at the end.
