Two gods fled heaven to choose love. Now heaven has come to take them back.

Mara Soreth and Aren Valis have survived revelation, but not its consequences. The world knows what they are now: gods hidden in enemy flesh, commanders who have killed the very people who once prayed to them, lovers whose names have split two nations and wounded heaven itself.

Caldris fractures around the truth that its god of vows wore an Istravan body. Istrava recoils from the mercy-god revealed beneath Caldrin armor. Priests, soldiers, witnesses, and enemies all begin choosing what devotion means when worship can no longer remain innocent.

But the Throned Heaven does not intend to let its missing gods remain mortal.

The Hounds of Return are sent to restore Mara and Aren before they remember why they descended, before love teaches them refusal, and before the world learns that obedience is not the same as faith.

As pursuit closes in, Mara and Aren must survive not only armies and old enemies, but the terrible tenderness of being loved as gods by people who still need them to remain human.

The Heaven That Hunted Them is Book II of The Mortal Gods trilogy, a dark epic romantic fantasy of divine pursuit, fractured nations, sacred horror, battlefield mercy, and love that refuses to become worship.
