Unabridged Audiobook
The story is well done. There's a few things I could have done without.
really enjoying going into the mind and thoughts of Luke Skywalker and understanding the obstacles that he was going through between episodes 4 and 5
A fun adventure featuring Luke Skywalker, this book dives into Luke and his growth as a character after A New Hope. With two fun companions at his side, Luke goes on his first big mission for the Rebellion to rescue a cryptographer. Along the way, we see his growth in the force and in himself. Providing what I found to be key moments early in Luke’s journey, I found this to be an enjoyable, fun and lighthearted adventure. Don’t expect anything major happening here though, as this is a smaller scale story focused more on character than any huge galactic scale plot. Giving us a fun Luke Skywalker adventure in his early days in the Rebellion after A New Hope, this book gives us an important point early in his journey to becoming a Jedi. With Luke’s growth in the force, as a person, and in his understanding and experience with the complexities of the galaxy at large being the main center point of the story, this gives a great look at and understanding of Luke at this point in time. This despite some issues with the first person perspective not always sounding quite like Luke. Nakari and Drusil are fun, if static, characters that pair well with Luke and help him start to grow and mature out of his farm boy mindset even if that mindset is pushed a bit too far at times. The book’s choice to not have a villain or antagonist puts more weight on the story, which unfortunately does fail a bit under the pressure. The two side quests at the start along with kind-of disconnected climax and slow middle make the story an inconsistent stop and go affair with the worst offender needing to be cut out from the book entirely. Still it speaks a lot that despite these flaws the book overall manages to overcome them and still deliver a fun adventure that gives some important Luke moments I feel we’ve been missing in other Star Wars media. If your looking to go on a mission for the Rebellion with Luke Skywalker that’s fun and memorable with some enjoyable characters, this book will give you a good time despite its issues.
awesome star wars book. a must read.
The book was entertaining and I liked the tidbits I learned. The first person narration bothered me. Mark Thompson is a great narrator though.
Not much insight into Jedi and force etc. Just some added details of the coming of age of one Luke Skywalker. Not a must read. It’s Canon though.
Amazing! The way it was spoken helped me get into the story. I chuckled and even sighed at parts cause it was a moving story. The background music and effects were the touch that made it so special. Beautifully done, well done. My daughter (Emma) liked some of R2 blips. Yes I'm a huge Star Wars fan.
Nothing really happens
Like many of his others, Kevin Hearn's books are fantastic. Being a huge, Star Wars fan this was a great book. I love the different voices and sound effects. This is excellent and very entertaining.
terrific book, just as good as heir to the Empire.
Such a fun story! Great to hear about Luke and his struggles! Well done!
