Unabridged Audiobook
I loved the book when I read it. The audio version is phenomenal. It is always great when a favorite minor character from a series gets her own. This is definitely the case with both Amber and Bastion. They have both appeared in both the Other Realm series and the Other Wolf series. Amber is a witch who needs protection and Bastion is the Griffin hired to protect her. There is a history between them which is mentioned but it does help to read or listen to the other series first. It is well worth the time.
I was so excited when I found out Amber was getting her own series! Amber is a Coven Mother and one of the most well known witches in England. Trying to cement her spot on the Council, she has been formulating a potion to keep the human side of the Other species able to stay in the Other longer without needing a recharge. But, the Council is worried she is in danger after this information is leaked out. So they hire a bodyguard for her and it is none other than Bastion. Now she has to break the black witch curse and have a deadly griffin assassin with her at all times. And if dealing with the potion wasn’t already taking enough time, now she must root out the black witch or witches as well. Amber has quickly become my favorite character in the Other Realm. She is a little older than Jinx and Lucy so she has more life experience. But not all good life experiences either. If you’ve read about her in the previous series (and if you haven’t you should!), you know that she is seen as cold, money-driven and well, “witchy”. This book you get see a different, more vulnerable side of Amber and also get a small look into why she comes off that way. And who knew she could have such a hilarious sense of humor, even if it’s only giving out a mug of tea! And Bastion! From the previous series we know he is a handsome, deadly assassin. But as with Amber, there is more to Bastion as we begin to see as well. Can he begin to thaw Amber’s heart after what he did to make her hate him? I love how we also get a better look at the witches in this book as well. Amber is always at the ready to help and heal, but this really goes into how she prepares and the amount of work it takes. And how easily it can be for even a good witch to turn towards a darker path. Another magic and suspense filled book that will keep you reading or listening into the wee hours! It flows so well that you just keep going and don’t even realize it!
