Summary
'Home Front is Hannah's crowning achievement.'—The Huffington Post

In this powerhouse of a novel, Kristin Hannah explores the intimate landscape of a troubled marriage with this provocative and timely portrait of a husband and wife, in love and at war.

All marriages have a breaking point. All families have wounds. All wars have a cost. . . .

Like many couples, Michael and Jolene Zarkades have to face the pressures of everyday life—children, careers, bills, chores—even as their twelve-year marriage is falling apart. Then a deployment sends Jolene deep into harm's way and leaves defense attorney Michael at home, unaccustomed to being a single parent to their two girls. As a mother, it agonizes Jolene to leave her family, but as a solider, she has always understood the true meaning of duty. In her letters home, she paints a rose-colored version of her life on the front lines, shielding her family from the truth. But war will change Jolene in ways that none of them could have foreseen. When tragedy strikes, Michael must face his darkest fear and fight a battle of his own—for everything that matters to his family.

At once a profoundly honest look at modern marriage and a dramatic exploration of the toll war takes on an ordinary American family, Home Front is a story of love, loss, heroism, honor, and ultimately, hope.

'Hannah has written a remarkable tale of duty, love, strength, and hope that is at times poignant and always thoroughly captivating and relevant.' —Library Journal (starred review)

I enjoyed the book. I love Kristin Hannah’s books, but that reader needs to spare us the torture in her annoying kids voices! I honestly turned it off several times and fast forwarded anytime she spoke in her attempt to play the kids. SO BAD! Good way to ruin a good story.

This was without a doubt, the best book I have read in a long time. I cried, I got angry and I was overjoyed. It was well worth the read.

This is one of those story you should read rather than listen to. The narrator was horrible. She made the main character sound manly, and don’t get me started on the children’s voices. I know teenagers can be a pain, but seriously. This 12 yr. old did nothing but complain and whined, dramatically and constantly. At least that is the way the narrator portrayed her. Both children actually. It kind of ruined the whole story for me. Because I kept thinking surely parents would not raise a child to be like this. I had to literally quit listening to the story and purchased the book because I just couldn’t take it anymore.

This is a terrific book. Well written a real tear jerker. The views on PTSD are very enlightening.

Good story but way too long Dragged on and the bratty kids were over the top! No one would tolerate that. The husband was made to be the bad guy, but his issues were valid.

The story was good but way to long. It could have been wrapped up in half the time. So drawn out. The narrator was way to dramatic in every part she did. She was tough to listen to.

I think the other is in my head! So much of what came up in this book is/has been part of my life too. Her research on topics is astounding that she can know issues so intimately.

I really like this author and believe the concept of this book is great. Unfortunately I found the children to be annoying and overplayed. Though I understand the age, it would’ve been nice if the 12 year old had an ounce of compassion at some point and the 4 year old wasn’t so obnoxious. Maybe this wasn’t a good audiobook for me and I should’ve read it so I could develop my own sense of things.

I love the author but this book was hard to get through. The story could have been condensed to about half. BUT it could have been 100% the narrator. She was horrible. Her voice was hard to listen to. There were so many volume changes in her tone it was over dramatic. The 12 year old sounded like she was 40 and the voice she used for the 4 year old was almost unbearable to listen to.

Narrator was distracting.

Just when I think I have finished the best book I have ever listened to (Kristin's books) she always seems to amaze me...NOW this book has got to be the best! She also gave me a clearer picture as to what our troops go through. Just like Kristin, I have no military in my family so can not relate on many levels however after reading this book I have a whole new understanding and respect for our military personnel. Thank you Kristin for teaching me and opening my eyes to the trials and the ultimate sacrifice our men and women make for our country. A MUST READ

Kristin Hannah is a special writer in every way. I’m 76 years old and have read maybe 5 books in my lifetime. I’ve now listened to every one of her books and they have now made me an audio book worm.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book - Kristin Hannah was incredibly thoughtful and respectful in how she portrayed the characters, their individual challenges and sufferings in this book. She certainly did her military homework in how and what military families go through as their loved ones serve our nation along with the ongoing impacts of war. The narrator was not that great though but the strength of story made up for that and in multiple moments I had tears rolling down my cheeks.

I have read four of Kristin Hannah's books now it started with the Nightengale. Her writing just takes me away and puts me right there in the story as if I was a the ghost of Christmas Past/Present/Future watching the characters without them knowing.
