Summary
Murder, monsters, and a midlife crisis in Nightmare, Arizona

Divorced, broke, and broken down in the old mining town of Nightmare, Arizona, Olivia Kendrick is desperate for a job. At forty-two years old, she never thought she would be starting over like this, let alone in a tucked-away town filled with tourists, offbeat residents, and an outspoken UFO hunter. Olivia takes a job at a year-round haunted house, but when she arrives for her first day, she faces real horror: a local man's body has been dumped at the front entrance.

Olivia is an immediate suspect. After all, she's a stranger in town. As Olivia tries to find the real killer, she begins to realize her coworkers aren't just putting on a show every night at Nightmare Sanctuary Haunted House. And why does the 'dog' running around have such long fangs?

Things only get worse when Damien Shackleford, the son of the haunted house's missing owner, shows up. He might be handsome, but his arrogant attitude makes everyone miserable. Olivia must forge a new life, solve a murder, and decide who's more of a monster: Damien or the actual monsters she works with . . .

I enjoyed the first book of the "Nightmare, Arizona Paranormal Cozy Mystery" series a lot. Olivia Kendrick was moving when her car broke down outside of Nightmare, Arizona. She didn't have the money for car repairs, so she got a job at the year-round Haunted House. The created town of Nightmare was charming. The characters were quirky, outrageous, and eccentric, and I liked that many were paranormal beings. Olivia was a determined and intelligent sleuth. I enjoyed the way she puzzled out the clues to solve the mystery. Petrea Burchard's narration was delightful, and her performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review which reflected my opinions.

I loved this book when I read it and am still really enjoying the series (having just finished reading the latest book, book five) so it was really great to go back to the beginning and it had so much more meaning that I found myself arh and chuckling as it went along. I still loved this book right from the start, even having read it. The way it unfolds is just entertaining and nicely done. Giving just a hint of what it going on, making you care about the characters before everything is revealed and it explains so much. Definitely a series that is going to be great as an audio book. This is the start of the series and normally I wish the author would just get onto solving the murder instead of introducing you to all the characters and there backgrounds but in this case it is part of the charm and had me quickly finishing the book. The mystery, well okay the whole book is surrounded by mystery and I guess I mean the murder was nicely done and I was so busy hoping it wasn't going to be a character that I really liked that I forgot work out who the killer might be. Really looking forward to the next audio book. A catastrophe of events leads Olivia stranded in small town Nightmare. she cant leave until her car is repaired but she can’t afford to stay with no money. She answers a job advertisement on the town notice board, working at an all year haunted house. Her co workers seem nice if a little strange and she is only doing it until she can get enough money to pay her car repair bills. That is until on her first night she arrives at work to discover a dead body, with unusual scratches on his stomach. The town seem quick to blame the workers in the haunted house and with all the secrets they seem to be keeping they could be right but Olivia doesn't think so. Can Olivia find the killer and clear her new friends names? or is the town right to fear the employees of the haunted house? Of which she has become one? I liked the narrator. She made her own magic happen and the characters come alive so convincingly. I was given this free review copy book at my request and have voluntarily left this review
