Unabridged Audiobook
i didn't think I'd enjoy this as much as i did, Stephanie Meyer really knows how to make you feel for her characters and this book is one of the best examples out there. Add to that the captivating voice acting of Kate Reading and this book is more than worth a listen, this one i have saved to my phone!
One of my favorites books from when I was a teen! The narrator does an amazing job.
Like this book actually a lot even tho it was a little young it had me wanting know what was next most time I could gues what was said next bc I knew character or bc it was not too thick of plot? Idk but I do wish their was sequel and the movie was so bland
My favorite book of all. Great characters and character development, amazingly imaginative.
I was so excited for another book to be out by Stephanie Myer's. I read it and it was a bit different than twilight. I didn't know what to make of it. it was ok .
Loved loved loved this narrator! Parts of this book are slow moving but she made it completely bearable. This book is definitely worth the listen.
This is one of my favorite books. I love the characters, the conflicts, and how much they grow and change through out the book. The plot takes a little while to set so don't give up! Once you get a few chapters in you won't be able to stop listening!
Grat Story
Loved this book!! Had to watch the movie right after, it didn't do it justice.
A little hard to get into in the beginning but after the ball starts rolling I couldn't put it down
The narrator was amazing, she took a great book and read it just perfectly.
The narrator was a perfect fit for this book. The book was amazing!
The book was very good. It started out a little slow, but once the characters were laid out it kept my interest. I went thru the book in no time!
Well written, great story. Kept me totally hooked in and was sorry when it ended!!!!
I am a big fan of sci-fi and fantasy. While it took one full CD to hook me, once I figured out where this was heading I couldn't stop listening. Really enjoyed it!
I absolutely loved this book. The ending was wonderful and surprising! I can't wait until the movie comes out.
I was really excited about starting this book, but it was not what I expected. I just couldn't get into it. And I did not like the reader. I became so bored with it at times that I found myself not even listening to the audiobook as it played.
loved the first half can't wait for the second half.. been trying to read this for a while never seem to have enough time .. so I got the audio and loved every min. better than twilight and I LOVE twilight....
Stephenie Meyer proved with her "Twilight" series that she is masterful at spinning tales of the supernatural. In "The Host", she has successful traded the otherworldly for the extraterrestrial. Instead of vampires as her beloved outsiders, Ms. Meyer gives us benevolent, but parasitic, aliens to admire. Were she a writer with a less skillful pen, these characters and stories would soon run the risk of turning into ridiculous parodies of the occult and science fiction genres. But Ms. Meyer is no hack amatuer. The Writer manages to hook the reader/listener in the first page, making us love her imaginary misfits, while feeding us themes of the value of diversity and inclusion. It helps that in all her books, Ms. Meyer always provides tempting little love triangles to ponder.
I must confess, I did not know who this author was until afterwards... She certainly writes for women. So ladies, you can probably ignore my review :) I was expecting much more sci-fi from the description. Instead it seemed like a "Lifetime" movie....
Loved the book. I agree that it got off to a slow start, and I might not have continued if I had another book to listen to. Glad I stuck it out.
I read this book before I listened to it, and maybe that's why I appreciated it more than what I've seen from other reviews. The reader of this book is spot on by being robotic and slow in the beginning. If you pay attention to the story, it's an alien trying to figure out this new body and place and feeling as if she's a stranger among her own kind. With that said, I loved this reading, and was very sorry to see it end. Yes, Stephenie Meyer may get a few knocks for the Twilight series, which I read as well, but this book stands on its own. I personally think it's her best yet.
Outstanding. A little hard to get in to but then it grabs you and you can't let it go.
I love Stephenie Meyer, but. this one, just confused and slow , boring, can't finish no matter how I tried. Sorry !
This book had a slow start the narrator spoke like a robot. It gets better and when new characters came in the Narrator did better with the accents. It made me cry in some parts and happy in others. The ending was guessable. It is hard listening to the first part of the book because it is so slow. But it is worth it in the end.
This book has a slow start, but then really gets good. Part 2 was absolutely addictive to me. I kept making up reasons to be in the car so that I could listen to the book. I highly recommend it.
For inept, fumbling, confused Bella, we get Wanda. For the vampire family always standing by to kill Bella, we get Jarod's clan. For vampire softball we get soccer. For Bella always managing to hurt herself, we get the human outpost pounding on Wanda. Teenaged heroines, unlikely romances (sound familiar?) -- you got 'em in The Host. This wasn't the worst book I've ever read, but not the best. The reader is pretty good. I kept at it 'til the end (which isn't super satisfying either)...but something must have kept my interest or I would've quit. Thus - two stars from me.
This was a phenomenal book and nothing at all like I had expected. The narrator performed each role beautifully. I highly recommend this novel. It is one of my all-time favorite. Great job all around.
This book starts out slow, but ends up being a really wonderfuly story. So give it some time!
I like the story but man o' man it took her a long time to tell it. It was too long and boring. Go back to Bella and Edward.
Outstanding written story. Very spell binding and I find myself completely enthralled in the story. The narrator is absolutely great.
Stephenie Meyer has a true gift. The characters in this book are rich and compelling, the story is heartbreaking and beautiful and the journey is worthy of the length. The first few chapters are a little slow but once the story gets going it's amazing. Love, humanity, compassion - and aliens, of course. Even my husband enjoyed it!
I was hesitant to read "listen" to this book because I don't "do" sci-fi, but It was great! I would even say better than the twilight books! It is written for adults so the teenage angst that bored me in the twilight series is not presented. The trivial is not played upon because the environment in which this story is based doesn't allow for it. Loved it!
The reader on this is fabulous but i found the book boring and tedious.
I was hesitant to read this book since I am not really into Sci-fi or aliens, but because I absolutely loved Stephenie's Twilight Saga (which by the way I almost didn't read because I am also not into Vampires) I decided to give it a chance. I am very glad I did. I think this novel is just as wonderful as the Twilight Saga books and I have actually read it three times now. Stephenie's writing has come a long way and I can't wait to read whatever she may publish next.
I read Stephanie Meyer's first adult book expecting a lot since I loved the Twilight books. It was good. Not as good as the Twilight books. Very sci-fi. The underlining romance was good. The violence was a little too much.
