The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton is a brilliant and devastating portrait of wealth, status, and social expectation in turn-of-the-century New York. At its center is Lily Bart, beautiful, intelligent, and raised to move effortlessly among the privileged classes, yet increasingly trapped by the very society that has taught her to value money, appearances, and marriage above independence.

As Lily struggles to secure her place in a world governed by wealth and reputation, a series of choices, misunderstandings, and betrayals gradually pushes her toward social ruin. Wharton exposes the hypocrisy and cruelty beneath fashionable society with remarkable psychological insight, exploring love, ambition, morality, gender, class, and the terrible price of refusing—or failing—to conform.

Narrated by Geoffrey Giuliano and The Rebellion, this production brings Wharton’s elegant prose and tragic social drama vividly to life. Giuliano’s distinctive theatrical narration captures the intelligence, irony, vulnerability, and mounting tension of Lily Bart’s unforgettable story, presenting one of American literature’s most powerful examinations of privilege, judgment, and the fragility of social acceptance.
