Summary
When Claire sees Hannah Wilson at an exclusive Manhattan hair salon, it's like a knife slicing through barely healed scars. It may have been ten years since Claire last saw Hannah, but she has thought of her every day, and not in a good way. So Claire does what anyone would do in her position—she stalks her.

Hannah is now Mrs. Carter, living the charmed life that should have been Claire's. It's the life Claire used to have before Hannah came along and took it all away from her.

Back then, Claire was a happy teenager with porcelain skin and long blond wavy hair. Now she's an overweight, lazy drunk with hair the color of compost and skin to match. And that’s why when Hannah advertises for a housekeeper, Claire is confident she can apply and not be recognized—especially since she has time on her hands, revenge on her mind, and a talent for acting…

What better way to seek retribution—and redress—than from within the beautiful Mrs. Hannah Carter's own home?

But it's not just Claire who has secrets. Everyone in that house seems to have something to hide.

And now, there's no way out.

I loved the storyline, but felt the narrator’s voice didn’t fit the character.

The story is well written. it has some plot twist and the character development is good. The narrator is sounds to old to be a 25 year old character. Overall enjoyed this book.

A pleasant surprise that a reward book was actually good for a change ! Not totally predictable and a good pacy thriller. Liked it enough to want to ‘read’ more of her books. I agree with the comments that the narrator sounds a lot older than the character should be in the book and I found her sarcastic style of speaking irritating at first but the tone does change and the narrator does a good job of it and is a competent actress if you can get past the age thing. Definitely recommended.

The storyline really kept me interested and the ending had a great twist. While the narrator’s voice sounded older than a 24 year old, she nailed the expression and emotion of the characters.

It was okay. Dragged out a bit. The voice doesn’t feel like a 23 year old, more like someone in their early 40s. The ending after the ending was unnecessary. But the truth was a good twist.

A little tough to get into but the narration is good and there are some very funny one liners

I tried to get into this book but just couldn’t after a couple of hours. Some interesting characters and storyline but didn’t really like the narration.

The book wasn't bad but i wasn't a big fan of the narrator and it made me not care for the main character of the book

It was okay. I wouldn't go further... suitablefor a long drive. I didn't feel that the ending was a massive twist, and the "epilogue" part was just ridiculous and sappy. Several incidents were totally unbelievable, so you have to suspend common sense to go along with the storyline. I certainly won't be looking for anything else from this author.

I’d give it 3 & 1/2 stars It was interesting. Just a little too unbelievable for my taste. I thought the narrator did fine.

Like others said, the narrator sounded too “old” for the main character, but she did a great job with other characters. This had some twists I didn’t expect! Turn offs were blatant fat phobia and extra bits at the end were too sunshine and rainbows for me. But it was an interesting read.

I got this book as the monthly VIP and I enjoyed it. It wasn’t the best book, not a 5 star for me, but a good 4 stars. It kept me interested even though it was a bit slow to start. I do agree with the other reviewers, however, who mentioned the narrator’s voice. The protagonist is supposed to be 24 years old, but the narrator definitely has an “old” voice; to me she sounded at least 50, if not 60. I didn’t think it would bother me too much but I found it really did throw me off, especially in certain parts. There was nothing wrong with her narration, but the voice definitely did not fit the character!

I haven’t been able to finish this one. I’m sure the story is great but the narrator ruins it for me. It’s like nails on a chalkboard for me. The character with the lisp makes me want to throw my phone out the window as I’m driving. I think I will have to pick up a copy and read it instead of listening.

I agree with other reviiews that the narrator doessn't sound the same age as the protagonist, but I don't think that matters. The narration was strong, with subtle channges in voice to indicate the different characters. I loved the story, and the first person narrative makes you want to be on Claire's side, but because the story unfolds only from her point of view, there's extra dramatic irony as you realise she may be interpreting the situation wrongly, and you've guessed the truth ahead of her. The pace crackles, with revelations and new mysteries in every chapters, leading to a nail-biting conclusion.

This book started a bit slow, but it was well written. The amount of time spent reviewing the protagonist's backstory was well done. Throughout the book, however, I felt there was something I was missing. And when I reached the end, I realized what it was as the conclusion took an unexpected turn. In some ways, it felt like a cheat ending because of what was missing earlier in the book. With that said, I did find the ending very satisfying.

I really appreciated the story and the character development. The story had me hooked and kept me coming back for more. The only knock that I would give is that the narrator’s voice seemed to be too old for the main character.

The story was okay however there were so many implausible situations and questions left unanswered that the story felt a bit flat. The other reviewers were correct in saying the narrators voice was not that of a 23 year old. However, the narrator still did a decent job.

I loved this book! It kept me guessing until the end, and wrapped things up pretty nicely. As far as the narrator goes, she is very talented at changing her voice for different characters. However, her narrating voice which is the main character, a 24 year old woman, sounds much older than it should. It bothered me at first, but the story took my mind off of that rather quickly.

Secrets hurt and sometimes kill. It's When crazy what tbe mind remembers but when faced with reality your world turns upside down. Claire hated Hannah for years and even went the extremes to destroy her as she thought she did to her family and her life. Thing is, it wasn't Claire she needed to be worried about but Hannah's deranged husband. Chile, money isn't everything and this story is a prime example. Everything that looks good ain't good for ya. This was my last book for 2020, didn't reach my goal of 60 books, but I'll take #Book50of2020 . Hopefully in 2021 I will read way more. #bookworm #whatsnext

The characters were well defined and the twists believable. My interest was captured immediately and held throughout! The narrator was great so I always knew what character I was dealing with.

I loved this listen for the narrator who was easy on the ears and had the ability to make me believe the characters were who they were with no confusion. The story line for its twists and the way the story kept me hanging... I generally listen for my hour long commute but I couldn’t stop listening when the ride was over. Great book all around.
