How Green Was My Valley is Richard Llewellyn's bestselling'and timeless'classic, as well as the basis of a beloved film. As Huw Morgan is about to leave home forever, he reminisces about the golden days of his youth when South Wales still prospered, when coal dust had not yet blackened the valley. Drawn simply and lovingly, with a crisp Welsh humor, Llewellyn's characters fight, love, laugh, and cry, creating an indelible portrait of a people.

'A story of exquisite distinction and vibrant interest; clear and strong as the music under the sky.''New York Times Book Review

Genres:

  • robert buckman

An affecting, immortal portrait of the characters and culture of a Welsh mining town at the beginning of the 20th century. There is a reason why this book has been so popular for so long. it is a classic and the narrator is perfect.

  • oodeluph

...in the 20th century. The book is wonderful; completely character driven yet with a plot line that never loses steam from beginning to end. A serious reminder of what people can and should be, with humor, tragedy and high drama, all rolled into one. One might wish the narrator, although very good, had imbued his reading with a lot more life; the story and characters are begging for it. But to miss hearing this is a tragedy in itself. Simply not to be missed!!!
