Unabridged Audiobook
It stared out interesting, went nowhere, and the all ended so suddenly and didn’t answer a lot of questions that were still left. Also, you can hear the narrator loudly swallow several times.
I wouldn't recommend this book. Too slow
Love it! Great narration. Satisfying reframing of the Carmilla experience.
Narrator was excellent. Many people recommended this book to me by describing it as a retelling of Sheridan Le Fanu's 1872 vampire classic, but that is not what this is. This is a story of feminine rage. If I were to rate this book as a Victorian era tale of feminine rage, I would give it a 5 or a strong 4 but when people talk about this book, Carmilla or Vampires are the first things often said about it, and it has neither. The Carmilla featured in this story is not a character; she is a narrative tool. Her theming is used excellently to portray how women are demonised for expressing carnal desires, but that's all she is here. Even the sapphicness is kind of glossed over so the author can tell the story she wants to tell, and she tells it brilliantly but this is not a sapphic story, nor is it a vampire story or even a Carmilla story, so readers and listeners beware if that's what you're here for.
Loved it! Was a feel good listen :)
The book and narration were engaging and drew me into the main character's mind and experience. The story creative and thought provoking. Highly recommend.
