I hated just about every character in this book until about halfway through. Completely irritating book.
It’s a fun girly book. A light-hearted and enjoyable listen.
It’s a typical Sophie K book...you know what you’re getting. I thought the beginning was a little slow, but the story that unfolded was worth the wait. The narrator was great, too. I highly recommend this feel good story.
I liked the easy and fun romantic side of this story, but it was not my favorite of Sophie Kinsella's. I found her main character, Fixie Farr, to be difficult to like. I thought she was kind of shallow in her thinking; and a whole lot of the book was about her thinking... Still, I liked how her story turned out, even if it does mean that her brother's whole personality had to change on a dime in order for her story to turn out as well as it did. Even her sister had to do a huge turnaround that wasn't very realistic in order to make the happy ending. Real life experience tells me that self-absorbed, egocentric people take a long time to gradually change into thoughtful giving people, but that would have made the book too long, so... I guess it was the best it could have been.
The narration was just so-so. Fiona Hardingham has a slightly strident tone while she reads that grates just a tiny bit, but her inflection and characterizations for this story were good.. I won't avoid her in the future, but I won't seek her out when I go to pick out an audio book like I do some narrators.
Sometimes I feel like Sophie Kinsella is slightly ADHD. I really have to concentrate on these books to figure out if it is just a strand of ramblings bound together and printed.
Although she took it a bit to the extreme, what female out there has not had similar internal conversations of self doubt and experiences of selling ourselves short. Just glad this book also had the chick flick type ending that I sometimes enjoy escaping to for some good old fashion light hearted entertainment.
Love the narrator. She made me laugh.
It was a slow start, but half way through it started to pick up.
Cute story line. My only complaint is that all the men sounded the same throughout the narration. But it was an easy listen during a long car ride.
Light and easy to listen. Narrator was excellent.
The Story is fun but Main Character suffers for too long throughout the book being a victim of others selfish behavior. It gets tedious.
Love Sophie Kinsella. A “chick flick” book!
Loved this book. The end made me cry. Realistic and relatable.
Not the normal uplifting inspiring Sophie kinsella book. I found it hard to listen to the main characters uncaring family for 3/4's of the book..and the ending was predictable. skip it and listen to another.
Although at first it frustrated me, as it seems also some others based on some of the reviews, I found myself relaxing and just accepting the fact the heroine was a doormat. It was entertaining.
Wow this is crazy
