Unabridged Audiobook
This is a very thought provoking book. I am glad to have read it and I am sure I will be thinking about it for a while.
Haunting and strange, with a tinge of hopelessness. I can't say I loved every second of this book, but it made me think and immersed me in the feelings of the narrator. I would recommend this book to anyone who doesn't mind the abstract and strange. It doesn't explain itself, but rather invites the reader to consider what might have led to the narrator's unique situation.
So glad I read as an audiobook. Don’t think I could have gotten through it.
Haunting
It is as strange as it is beautiful. I enjoyed the book and I think this is one of those books that the more you read/listen the more you can take from. Just like the narrator said at the end of the book.
Beautiful book. I loved it, though I kept wishing she could see mountains or ocean. I highly recommend!
Very thought provoking and reminiscent of Handmaids Tale.
I bought a hard copy the second I finished the audiobook. Love it.
Very interesting and different than anything else I’ve ever read
Very thought provoking!
Great book, but too short. If it were longer, it would be able to cover up the ( very minor) plot holes, such as how did The Child replace the cork on the bottle after digging it off with a knife? The philosophical aspects of the story were wonderful. It definitely gets stuck in your head. It leaves you wanting more.
This book was good. Nothing overly exciting or dramatic, somewhat anticlimactic. I’m the end it was still a good read
My advice would be to read a bit about the author before listening to this book. It will really make you view this story in a different light. Thought-provoking!
This book floored me.....in the best way. It's very thought-provoking and truly not *that* far-fetched in terms of dystopian literature.
Strange, but wonderful
I listened to it all in one shot. Brilliant!
This was the most sexist, conservative book I ever finished. Terrible!
Sticks with you!
I love science fiction, and this book asked too much of me. It asked me to suspend my belief of everything that I held to be true about human nature. This book was chosen as a book club selection. Our group creator chose it an we were the last two to read/listen. After a few chapters I texted her wondering if she was wondering the same thing I did. “Are these women insane?” Then we learn the child has never had formal schooling. The women never talked to her, but her speech and thought patterns follow so much logic she uses her heartbeat to track time. I’m sorry. Lightsabers and Death Stars seem more credible. I did finish listening. I just laughed at the next unbelievable thing they did or said. This was the worst listen I’ve had in a long time.
