Summary
When a mysterious stranger brings word of a dragon, Jason's whole world changes.

The northern mountain village offers protection from the threat of dragons, but is a difficult place, especially for a misfit like Jason Dreshen. His days are spent hunting for food for his family, praying for warmth, and trying to hide his strange silver eye that grants him dragon sight.

When a stranger visits during the local Freedom Festival searching for a different kind of dragon, everything changes.

Forced down the mountainside, Jason learns the truth of powers he'd only heard about in rumors. While running from deadly Dragon Souls, he finds he might have more of a connection to magic than only dragon sight. In order to save himself and stop the Dragon Souls, he must learn a truth about himself that leads him closer to the one thing he fears above all others: dragons.

Somehow, he might be the only one able to protect them from the Dragon Souls, but how can he protect what he hates?

It took a bit to get into it, but now I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!! do wish the narrator had more difference in the voices of the characters, but that's just a minor thing.

This is a reactionary fetch quest story. There is no thought to motivations or a goal orher than the goal of others. The entire story is based on a quest issued by gods whose true motivations are unknown. This is chock full of pompous blowhards spouting nonsense unchallenged by the truth. The author likes to let them keep on blowing while everyone apparently just stands there and nods along. After a few paragraphs or chapters when our intrepid MC finally tries to clear up the facts, he then says nothing constructive and often destructive which only leads to more nonsense misunderstandings. This is full of eye rolls and super long drawn out train wreck situations. This is literally an RPG quest line where the MC just follows the arrow to the next task with little rhyme or reason. I will not continue the series and will not knowingly purchase another book by this author. Sadly a large percentage of isakai books are almost a carbon copy of this particular writing style, almost as if written by AI. I do not like any of the characters. I hold little but contempt for their actions, motivations or reasoning. The ethics and moral delima choices are ridiculous with 90% of the story being dependent on letting mass murdering masterminds live while killing millions of peons like they are reaping wheat in a field, but once you get to the leader, omg we cant murder people. Let's try to befriend them so we can write a redemption arc of the genocidal slavers.

good read. can't wait for more.

Seemed like a good idea but the story developed too slowly and left too much unexplained. The characters weren't very well developed and I grew annoyed with the constant indecisiveness of the hero. Perhaps there's a sequel that will tie up the many loose ends, And give some depth to the people that were initially involved.

Poor story line, not exciting. Narrator was ok but emphasis within sentences sometimes a bit off

coming off Naomi Novik's Tameraire Series, this is a perfect series to dive directly into. The first stuck the landing, the only note I can make is at parts (most) when all other characters are introduced the author or narrator often refers to characters as the other man which confuses dialogue a bit. Overall I'm sold on investing into the entire series.
