Unabridged Audiobook
An interesting story that is worth listening to.
Through her writing and characters, Erica James' emotional intelligence shines through. This is a domestic drama/story about the lives of what at first appears to be a conventional/every box ticked kind of family, but who face a huge eruption in the long established dynamics. We then, as readers, witness the fallout and way in which each family member copes, works through and grows from this initial 'life shattering' declaration. it is not by any means a unique tale, but what is nowadays? However, James is a skilled novelist, and knows people well. She is able to create a really good read, that stirs self reflection and recognition in her audience. I would say not as a criticism, but rather because some may find it frustrating if not to their taste, or in the wrong mood for it, that it does all tie up very neatly and quickly for every character. I was fortunately very up for a comfort read that came to an upbeat and feel good end, but I'm aware that it could be unrealistic or twee to some.
