An insider look at a near-decade with David Letterman from a three-time Emmy-nominated producer—a wildly funny, searingly honest memoir chronicling the author's crooked path to success, his wide-eyed entry into show business, and what it takes to stick around

Before he stumbled on one of the most coveted internships in comedy at Late Night with David Letterman, Daniel Kellison described himself as a bongs-before-breakfast screwup: Raised in rural Vermont by a “four‑time‑divorced hippie mother” and a 'one-eyed babysitter' Kellison entered adulthood armed with self‑doubt and a talent for self-destruction. The ensuing years were nearly-disastrous—he narrowly avoided getting fired multiple times before somehow climbing through the ranks. But he found his footing, and with encouragement from the enigmatic Letterman himself, went on to produce many of the show’s most memorable guests and iconic segments.

With humor and unflinching self-awareness, Kellison details how he survived his chaos-fueled ascent on Letterman and pulls back the curtain on how some of the show's most unforgettable moments came together, from Drew Barrymore’s birthday-flash to Madonna’s infamous foul-mouthed tirade to Acapulco cliff divers risking their lives diving off the roof of the Ed Sullivan Theater.

I’m on the Moon is the behind-the-scenes story of Late Night with David Letterman from someone who helped make the show what it was, a memoir for anyone who’s ever been one bad decision away from disaster, and a testament to mentorship, resilience, and the power of sticking around just long enough to find your lane.
