Unabridged Audiobook

Written By: Oscar Wilde

Narrated By: LibriVox Volunteers

Publisher: LibriVox

Date: January 2017

Duration: 2 hours 18 minutes

The Importance of Being Earnest is a classic comedy of manners in which two flippant young men, in order to impress their respected beloveds, pretend that their names are “Ernest,” which both young ladies believe confers magical qualities on the possessor. It was first performed for the public on February 14, 1895 at the St. James’ Theatre in London, and is regarded by many critics and scholars as being the wittiest play in the English language. (Summary from

  • Ben V

Really funny play. Narration was with good effort but doesn’t sound like a professional recording

  • Kate H

Some of the narrators were horrid.

  • Dominika V

Not the greatest recording quality, but definitely a great story! Sure keeps you company on long drives.

  • Cory A

Not the best recording but the play is great. funny.

  • Holly H

One of my favourite audio books. Listened to it many times. All roles are narrated very well and very funny. Couldn't help laughing and mimicking the characters as I listen!

  • Beverly S

Very entertaining and witty, one of my favorite plays.

  • Kenzie Carlson

The male narrators were very good but the female narrators were unbearable to listen to, especially the women reading Cicily. I couldn't even make it all the way through. She sounded like a robot.
