In Sheep's Clothing: Understanding and Dealing with Manipulative People

Unabridged Audiobook

Written By: George K. Simon Jr., Ph.D.

Narrated By: Kevin Foley

Date: July 2011

Duration: 4 hours 30 minutes

Summary:

Dr. George K. Simon knows how people push your buttons: your children-especially teens-are experts at it, as is your mate. A coworker may quietly undermine your efforts while professing to be helpful, or your boss may prey on your weaknesses. Manipulative people have two goals: to win and to look good doing it. Too often, those they abuse are only vaguely aware of what is happening to them.

In this eye-opening book, you'll discover:

-four reasons why victims have a hard time leaving abusive relationships

-power tactics manipulative people use to push their own agendas and justify their behavior

-ways to redefine the rules of engagement between you and the abuser

-how to spot potential weaknesses in your character that can set you up for manipulation

-two tools for personal empowerment to help you maintain greater strength in all relationships

it was not bad. it didn’t really specify things i wanted to know about manipulation, it mostly spoke about story and it all comes to your understanding of that story.

Interesting and helpful to the covert aggressive newbie. I had already adopted the same strategies suggested by the author, but it was nice to have confirmation that I am on the right track. The narrator does that thing male narrators do where they speak female dialogue in this whiny, servile voice. Ugh, that always makes me cringe. Fortunately, there is not a whole lot of dialogue in this book.

Having lived and worked with a number of highly manipulative people I was expecting much more in this book. What it proposes is interesting, but I really didn’t find the examples given at all convincing. Nor does the author explain how he gets allegedly so far into the heads of covert aggressives and sees them with an all seeing eye, when they are generally not part of his therapy session.
