Summary
Clare Fergusson, Saint Alban's new priest, fits like a square peg in the conservative Episcopal parish at Miller's Kill, New York. She is not just a 'lady' but also a tough ex-army chopper pilot—and nobody's fool. Then a newborn infant left at the church door brings her together with the town's police chief, Russ Van Alstyne, who is also ex-army and a cynical good shepherd for the stray sheep of his hometown. Their search for the baby's mother quickly leads them into the secrets that shadow Miller's Kill like the ever-present Adirondacks. What they discover is a world of trouble, an attraction to each other—and murder.

This is the first book in a series from Julia Spencer Fleming. I have listened to three so far and each one can stand on their own and yet the two main characters Clare Fergusson and Russ Van Alstyne develop and become more real as each tale unfolds. Unique in her style Fleming is masterful at spinning the story. The reader does a wonderful job putting feeling and warmth to the story. An awesome read so don't hesitate to listen. This is highly recommended as is any of her other books.
