Summary
NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A young girl’s troubled family is haunted by an entity she calls “Other Mommy” in this chilling tale from the author of Bird Box.

COMING SOON AS THE MAJOR MOTION PICTURE OTHER MOMMY, STARRING JESSICA CHASTAIN

“Deeply discomfiting, imaginatively ripe, yet ruthlessly efficient [with] claustrophobic terror that almost transcends articulation . . . Simply put—and I do not say this lightly—Incidents Around the House is the most purely effective horror novel I have ever read.”—Neil McRobert, Esquire

“This book is the monster that lives inside your closet.”—Grady Hendrix, New York Times bestselling author of How to Sell a Haunted House

LOCUS AWARD FINALIST • BRAM STOKER AWARD NOMINEE

To eight-year-old Bela, her family is her world. There’s Mommy, Daddo, and Grandma Ruth. But there is also Other Mommy, a malevolent entity who asks her every day: “Can I go inside your heart?”

When horrifying incidents around the house signal that Other Mommy is growing tired of asking Bela the question over and over, Bela understands that unless she says yes, her family will soon pay.

Other Mommy is getting restless, stronger, bolder. Only the bonds of family can keep Bela safe, but other incidents show cracks in her parents’ marriage. The safety Bela relies on is about to unravel.

But Other Mommy needs an answer.

Incidents Around the House is a chilling, wholly unique tale of true horror about a family as haunted as their home.

Creepy as hell and I loved it! The child’s narration was perfect for the spooky vibes. Thought about this one long after it ended.

I'm going to be honest here. 1. I'm lucky I got this in a 2-for-1 deal because this book was a waste of credit. It was promising from the preview and I was enjoying the story... until I wasn't, not really. Somewhere after the first act it fell off, and near the ending it completely went off the rails. 2. It was terrifying. This book made me squirm, made me fidget, and honestly just scared the hell out of me. I nearly gave up on listening to this at night. And that brings me to the narrator. She's just so freaking good at narrating. From the way she voiced all those different characters and moments of tensions, to the way she captured the characters drifting into sleep, and just as easily captured the rushed talking and moments of flight—you actually FELT like you were running—her narration really brought the story alive and was this book's saving grace.

Sad, scary, has my name in it! Adds to the fear.

I found this both not scary and the narrator's voice to be so annoying!

First off, I’d like to say that I love the idea of a kids point of view but, I had no idea a little girl would be narrating the book. It was a bit off putting at first but as the book went on, I stopped noticing. Second, the Daddo nickname did make me cringe, but kids call their parents all kinds of nicknames so I got over that too. Over all the book was great, the descriptions of other mommy were creepy and awesome. It was an easy, fun listen.

Almost DNF. Daddo nickname was annoying. Some moments were creepy but overall not scary. Didn’t like the kid voice narration. Just didn’t live up to the hype for me. Bummer. :/

I’m sorry to say that the narration by a kid got to me about half way through. Also the constant “mom said” “dad said” “I said” had me thinking if all audio books have this in common. I’m fairly new to audio books so I’m not sure but I definitely feel like this would have been better as a book I read. Not very scary though the writing was good I just wanted to smack the characters by the end of the book which I guess confirms good writing.

Horror stories told by kid-POVs are such a good idea, you get an extra dollop of hopelessness in evert page
