Driven by paranoia and a desire for power, Griffin turns to theft and violence to survive. He enlists the help of a reluctant tramp named Thomas Marvel to carry his stolen research notes and assist him. However, Griffin's increasingly unstable behavior leads Marvel to betray him and flee with the notes. Griffin, a brilliant but arrogant scientist, discovers a way to make himself invisible. A mysterious stranger, his face entirely covered by bandages and dark glasses, arrives at the quiet English village of Iping during a snowstorm.
