Discover the shocking gender bias that affects our everyday lives in this groundbreaking gift of an audiobook edition, read by Caroline Criado Perez.

Imagine a world where...

· Your phone is too big for your hand
· Your doctor prescribes a drug that is wrong for your body
· In a car accident you are 47% more likely to be injured.

If any of that sounds familiar, chances are you're a woman.

From government policy and medical research, to technology, workplaces, and the media. Invisible Women reveals how in a world built for and by men we are systematically ignoring half of the population, often with disastrous consequences. Caroline Criado Perez brings together for the first time an impressive range of case studies, stories and new research from across the world that illustrate the hidden ways in which women are forgotten, and the profound impact this has on us all.

Well-written and narrated! As a woman in her 30s who has burnt out twice from juggling a full time paid job and full time unpaid caregiving for a disabled and elderly parent, this validates my experience while exposing the systemic undervaluing of this essential work. It’s maddening that this burden is so widely normalised though - Kudos to everyone who does their part to understand, help raise awareness, and campaign for change!

As a well-meaning but pretty ignorant person, I appreciated this book as a primer for understanding how the ways we collect data often discriminate against women (medical testing exclusively on males, not including women in discussions of everything from city planning to product design, not including unpaid labor and caregiving as part of GDP, etc.) We need more sex-disaggregated data. Sexism often is not malicious but spawns from ignorance. That doesn’t make it ok. The first chapter “can snow plowing be sexist?” was an excellent introduction to the book and project.

So much biased

I regret the purchase of the book, having realised only too late that the author had an extremely narrow idea of gender, an outdated concept of biology and an extremely binary approach to both - thus, while attempting to show narrow minded views discriminating through the ages, in the end succumbing to as restricted thinking herself; throwing everyone not fitting her definitions, as well as intersectionality as a whole, under the bus. Disappointing.
