Unabridged Audiobook
Simply put, what you think of the book is going to depend on where you stand on the issue. Bernard-Henri has experience of war zones, and passionately explains his views which are those of a man who supported left wing politics, but who feels betrayed by the left wing people, whose politics appear to be that of “yes, but not if it’s Jews”. The author examines and refutes some of the misunderstandings that these such people spout forth, so of course they aren’t going to like what he has up say. As a reading, I thought it good. As content, I thought it very strong, but found myself wanting more. I would suggest that those who are unfamiliar with what he says, to explore further, with an open mind. For those who have already made their mind up against Israel, or its right to survive, then you’re probably not going to listen anyway.
I think this book provided a good discussion on the history of the region, and while definingly opinionated, not obstructively so. This book was written as a direct result of the October 7, 2023 events and while current political climates have created vastly different views, I would still recommend this book to those studying foreign affairs and policy.
